~Pillows & A Dry Sink~

I know I have been gone a long time, but time just seems to slip away from me these days. I cannot believe that I am already a month into my summer vacation!  Time certainly does fly.

It has been a busy summer so far.  I have four photo shoots to do for A Primitive Place & Country Journal magazine at some wonderful houses.  I have also decided to do a craft show this fall!  I am for from a professional when it comes to making primitive handmade items, but I am giving it a try.  I will be selling my cross stitched samplers, stitcheries, and pillows at the show.  I am really excited about it and I am using the lazy days of summer to build up my inventory! = )

Some of you may remember that my mom taught me to sew last summer.  My mom got a new sewing machine for Christmas, so she gave me her old one.  That was two weeks ago.  In that time, I have made 25 pillows for the show!  Here is a very small sampling of the pillows I have made.  Most of these pillows were my first attempts, so that are not the best ones I have made.  I do believe they are getting better with each one a make.

Jeff and I have also been doing a little antique shopping this summer.  Last week, I found this great dry sink at a local antique store.  I placed it in the basement kitchen and used it to display some of my wooden bowls.  I really like the way it turned out!

I will be posting more of my handmade items in the near future so that you can see what I have come up with.

~The Antique Shuffle~

One of the many perks of having the summer off is that I have time to tweak things in our house.  I have already started doing the antique shuffle and I am really having a good time.

Jeff and I were out shopping a couple of weeks ago and we found this wonderful cupboard.  I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.  We decided to get it and we placed it in the keeping room.

I decided that I wanted to put my ever growing collection of yellowware in the new cupboard.  Some of my bowls were too wide to fit so I placed them on their sides.  At first, I didn't like it, but now I have decided that I love how it looks.  I also recently found some yellowware mugs.  After a little research, I discovered that they are root beer mugs from the 30's.

Since I put the new cupboard where the Hoosier used to be, I needed to find a new home for the Hoosier.  I put it in the basement where the black Hoosier used to be.  Now the black Hoosier is in the garage.  It may be looking for a new home soon. = )

I also did some rearranging on the counter tops in the basement kitchen.  I am trying to go with a more primitive and simple look on the counter tops.  This is what I came up with.

~More Summer Decorating~

I have been doing a little more summer decorating during this first full week of summer vacation.  I thought I would take a few minutes and share what I have been doing with you.

This first picture is off the table in the basement kitchen.  I created a summertime centerpiece in an antique basket that I had.

The flags came from The Olde' Homestead in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  Three of the flags are Betsy Ross flags and three of them are fifty star flags.  The greenery came from Hobby Lobby.

On the dining room table, I filled a wooden box with geraniums.  I found the geraniums at Hobby Lobby.

I really like how it turned out!

I think it makes the entire room feel more like summer.
