~The Joy of Collecting! A Photo Shoot Sneak Peek.~

Last Saturday Kimberlee Johnson and I traveled to the small town of Lebanon, Illinois to do a photo shoot of a home for an upcoming issue of A Primitive Place magazine.

The homeowner's name is Joy. I knew that Joy was an avid collector, but I had no idea what I was in store for when I entered her home. I was overjoyed by what I saw. You name it, Joy collects it. I have never seen that many collections in one place. Here home is truly a primitive heaven. As I was walking through Joy's home I found myself thinking, "I want that, and that, and that...oh...and that". Here is just a small sampling of some of Joy's awe inspiring collections.

If the pictures left you wanting more, I have only one suggestion. You need to click ~here~ to order your own subscription of A Primitive Place magazine to see the rest of Joy's awesome collections.

~Candles Galore~

On a recent trip to The Olde Homestead in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, I went candle crazy. I just love the way a candle looks in a room. They make any room so warm and inviting. Here are some of the different candles I purchased and the ways that I displayed them.

This "candle lamp" is sitting on the gate leg table in the music room. I love the grungy candle! It is perfect!

Here is a picture of the entire display.

This "book candle" is holding a song book open in the music room.

This "book candle" is holding a child's book open on the nightstand in the kid's room.

Here is a closer picture.

This "book candle" is holding a vintage school ledger open on the desk in the keeping room.

I placed this "hanging candle" on an old wooden ironing board in the kitchen.

So, what do you think of my candle mania?

~A Sneak Peek & New Lights~

As most of you know, I am painting again! This time, I am painting the basement. I decided to give you a sneak peek of what I have finished. I am doing the basement in sections. This will keep me from getting overwhelmed and will keep the mess down. I am painting the walls sisal which is a Martha Stewart Living paint color and the doors and trim are cornucopia which is also a Martha Stewart Living paint color. I am expecting my check from Martha any day now for all the free advertising I have been giving her paint...LOL!

There are two halls in the basement I started working on them on Tuesday and I am finished with one and almost finished with the other. Before you think that I am slacking, let me explain. The trim in the basement was varnished so I am having to prime the trim and then paint it. It is taking two to three coats so that is why it is taking so long. The good news is there are not that many doors left. I am hopeful that the rest of the basement will go quicker. So here is what I have finished!

It doesn't look like much, but I promise I have been working really hard. = )

While we were on vacation, Jeff's dad hung two light for me. The lights are in the basement and they fit in so much better with the look I am going for.

This is the new light over the island in the kitchen.

This is the new light over the kitchen table. The door is the background shows you what the doors in the hallway looked like before.

When I finish the basement family room and kitchen, I will only have one more room to paint. I am really looking forward to getting finished. This will allow me to start all over painting upstairs. Just kidding, if you listen closely you will be able to hear Jeff scream when he reads this...LOL!

~Special Gifts from Special People~

When we arrived back from Gulf Shores earlier this week, there were two packages waiting for me. If you are like me, and I am sure you are, whenever I receive a package in the mail I get so excited and cannot wait to get it opened. The first package I opened was from a fellow blogger, Joanne. This is what was in the package!

I could not believe my eyes! Joanne had emailed me a few weeks ago when I was going through my kidney stone ordeal. She said that she belong to a group of people who like to perform Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) and she would like my address to send me something for being under the weather. Actually, it felt more like being under the bus, but I am trying to be positive...LOL! Anyway, I told Joanne that just her taking the time to send me an email to check on me was a random act of kindness. I told her I appreciated it very much. I gave her my address, but never expected such a generous gift. I was absolutley speechless! To tell the truth, I actually cried when I saw it. I could not believe that someone would take the time to make such a nice gift for me.

Notice how Joanne personalized it for me. A D for Dan, a J for Jeff, and a P for the Ps x 3. Isn't that wonderful!

This is what Joanne put on the back of the rug. I have always loved the television show Little House on the Prairie so I was delighted to see a quote by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Joanne also sent me this wonderful flag. It is primitive perfection. I cannot thank Joanne enough for her generosity and thoughtfulness. I will cherish this gift forever. It makes having kidney stones bearable, almost...LOL! To visit this very talented lady's blog, click ~Here~. Tell her Dan sent you.

I have not hung the hooked rug yet because...now brace yourself...this may come as a shock to some of you...I am painting the basement! I know, I know it is about time I pick up a paint brush. Anyway, I am wanting to hang the rug in the basement so I better hurry and finish painting so I can.

The second package I opened was this cute little guy!

You may recognize him as one of Lana Testa's creations. She has been creating a series of dolls for each issue of A Primitive Place magazine. This cute American bear is for the summer issue which is out now.

The bear was sent to me by Kristine Berg Doss the editor of A Primitive Place magazine. I cannot thank Lana and Kristine enough for their generosity and hard work. I will cherish him always. To order your bear, click ~Here~.

I really do not know why I have been so blessed, but I am really thankful!

~Gulf Shores, Alabama...Part Two~

As most of you know, we just returned from a family vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Jeff and I travel to Gulf Shores with my parents, my brother and sister-in-law, and their two kids Katie (5) and Jake (21 months).

We stayed in a three bedroom, three bath condo on the beach.

We spent lots of time enjoying the ocean and the beach.

All the fun was too much for Jake!

Thank goodness he had a raft that worked as a comfy bed.

My dad is a huge history buff, so we payed a visit to the USS Alabama which was a battle ship during WW II.

Jake is ready to sign up...I wonder if they will let him bring is raft???

We also waited to eat at some local restaurants.

And of course we did some antique shopping!

Gulf Shores is a nice place to visit. If you decide to go, tell them the Weavers sent you! = )
