Hello Everyone. This is Jeff. Dan wanted me to give everyone an update about how his surgery went. First, thank you for all of the prayers that were said on Dan's behalf. It has meant a lot to him just knowing how many people care about his well being.
The actual surgery went smoothly; however, the recovery did not. When the doctor came out to meet with the family, he said that Dan had been in recovery for about 15 minutes and that he should be back in the same day surgery ward within half an hour. It actually was many hours later before we could see Dan. When he woke up Dan was in pain, so the nurse gave him morphine. They ended up giving him 8 rounds or morphine and two rounds of another pain medication trying to manage his pain. The pain medication caused his blood pressure and heart rate to spike to dangerously high levels, so they gave him more medication to control this new problem. The new medication caused Dan to have extreme anxiety, so once again they had to give him another medication to combat the anxiety. In the meantime his nurse would check in with the family about every 45 minutes. We were all so worried.
By the time we got to see Dan it was after 7:00 PM. He was quite shaken by the day's events, but he was happy to see his family. He still had to eat and have three consecutive good blood pressure readings before we could take him home. Dan had so many drugs in his system that he could hardly stand up, but we managed to get him checked out, into the Jeep, and finally into our home. His parents bought us Cracker Barrel take out for dinner, one of Dan's favorite places to eat. His brother, Andrew, brought it over to us.
Now this is when things got interesting. Dan was so "high" that he was saying the funniest things!! He even fell asleep mid text to one of his colleagues who was checking on him. Until about 3:00 AM Dan was rambling incoherently. By 3:30 he was finally able to get some sleep.
Today Dan has been asleep almost all day. His mom and grandmother came by to see him, so he did get up for a bit, but his back started hurting, so he is back in bed right now. Please continue to pray for a fast and full recovery for Dan. I know he is ready to put this behind him. He wants you to know that he misses you and appreciates everyone who has checked in on him, said a prayer for him, and kept him in your thoughts yesterday and today. One of us will give you an update soon.

Oh, Dan, what an ordeal, my thoughts and prayers are still with you, and I am sorry you had to go through all this. I pray that this will be all over really FAST, please God.
Get better soon.
Good afternoon, Jeff and Dan,
I have been thinking about you and wondering how you are. I am so sorry about the pain, and will continue to pray for a speedy recovery.
Take care, ~Natalie

Jeff~ Thanks for the update.I'm sure your glad to have him home.Keeping Dan in prayer for a speedy recovery!~Amy
So sorry that the recovery had so many complications... getting him home is where he will heal the fastest! Cracker Barrel fixes EVERYTHING! :-) Hugs to everyone!
Jeff,
He needs to drink fluids to clear all of that morphine out of his system. And...it's really (unpleasant word here) constipating. Keep an eye on his blood pressure, too. If he's feeling crummy, do not hesitate to call the Doctor.
I'm sure he'll do fine. What he went through post-op is not uncommon. And you guys need to remember to tell the doctors and nurses in the future if he ever needs a procedure/surgery with anesthesia again about this recent experience so they can manage it next time.
Kathleen
I'm praying that Dan will feel better real soon. JB
Thanks so much Jeff for the update. Dan has definitely been in my prayers. What a horrible ordeal! The stress on you must be immense. I know how it is to watch someone you love go through that terrible pain. I will pray for you both and your little fur babies to have much brighter and happier days! :)
That must have been scary. I hope he feels better soon. I can't take morphine. It doesn't help with the pain but makes me want to climb the walls. It might have been the morphine that caused his problems instead of the other meds. I now say that I am allergic to morphine. That seems to be standard for surgeries. Good luck. Hope he feels better soon.
Oh my goodness! Poor Dan, and poor you, too! It's so hard to watch someone you love so much be in that much pain. I know you had to be beside yourself with worry over him! I will continue to lift y'all up in prayer. I hope the recovery goes smoothly from here on out.
Glad to hear Dan is getting better. If he isn't able to check this, tell him I'm thinking about him and wishing him a speedy recovery! Glad you were able to relay the message, thanks! : )
Take Care,
Janice
Oh my, what an ordeal for both Dan and yourself! Praying that Dan will have a speedy recovery and soon it will all be a distant memory and you and he can laugh over all the funny things the drugs made him say! Thanks for keeping us posted!
Oh my goodness, Praying for a quick and full recovery!!!
Thanks for the update and please tell Dan to take it easy.
Sorry things did not go so well, Janie
Oh, no! I was hoping the surgery was going to be a piece of cake for him. Hope he can keep future stones away. My son takes citric acid to keep them at a minimum, but it depends what type of stones you have.
Thanks so much for the update Jeff. Hoping Dan will have a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with you!
Jeff so glad to hear that Dan is home and can begin to recover from his ordeal..He will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers along with you..Thank you for the update..

Jeff, I am so sad Dan had such a hard time with his recovery...hope he improves each day. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers...hugs to you both....Denise
Hello Jeff: Thanks for the sweet update on Dan. Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end of all this nonsense and Dan will be back to normal shortly. It is scary when things go wrong; I had a similar incident with a "routine/we do this everyday" procedure and I don't recommend it; it's no fun. Give him a hug for me; Joy
Thanks for the update! Enough is enough already - poor guy has been through enough - Hope he's on the road to recovery and never again has to deal with this! Sounds like he has the bestest support team around! Hugs
Hello Jeff , Thanks for the update on Dan. Sorry to hear that things did not go as planned. I'm sure you were all on pins and needles waiting for him to come around. I will continue to pray for all of you. Hope this ordeal will be over soon, and you can get things back to normal. Tell Dan to rest and take it easy. Hugs to you all.

Hi, Jeff. I am so glad Dan is getting better. What a scare that must have been. Glad the drugs were able to help him - too funny about him being high and falling asleep in mid-sentence. Rest, both of you, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Get well soon. We miss the Dan.
Hi Jeff, Nothing can be more streessful to say the least than sitting by and not being able to do anything. I know you and his family must have been besides yourself and sick with worry. My heart goes out to all of you! Hopefully the worst is behind and it's nothing but forward from here on in. Will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers....Big Hugssss Mary
Wow what a day !! and what a cocktail, I sometimes wonder how the body copes with all of the different medications, it is a marvelous vehicle isn't it, so glad that Dan is in good hands and I can see Jeff, you will have some funny stories to tell :o)
