Who Are All These Dogs...and Why Are They Calling Us Dad?

Don't you think we should have a sampler or a sign that says, "Who are all these dogs...and why are they calling us dad?" I think that would be so cute.

We have some exciting changes planned for the front of our house. I am really excited about it! We are just waiting on the mailman to deliver something and we will be set. That is all I am saying for now...to be continued!

Jeff's Room

A couple of months ago when I was doing the house tour, Jeff kept giving me a hard time telling me I was ashamed of his room. So, I thought this would be a good time to show everybody Jeff's room. When I decorated it, Itried to use a lot of the things that mean a lot to him He is a big Charlie Brown fan. The Charlie Brown movie posters were framed by my mom. He has an electric piano in this room that he plays all the time. He also likes to watch television in here. This is the room that we keep the computer in. I spend a lot of time in here doing my blog and writing for A Primitive Place Magazine. The room doesn't go with the rest of the house, but I think it does represent Jeff which is important. There, Jeff, are you happy now???...LOL

New Sampler Arrangement

Over the last couple of days I have been compiling all of my samplers, with a few new additions, to make an arrangement down the basement steps. I always think that collections should be arranged together to achieve a greater impact. Before I had samplers in different rooms all over the house. Now they are all together and I think the arrangement turned out really well. I have some nail holes to patch and paint now, but it is worth it. Let me know what you think!

New Garage Doors

One of the projects that I wanted to complete this summer was new garage doors. I do not have a before picture to share with you, but the old garage doors were the standard door with no windows. I really thought that new garage doors would help the appearance of the front of the house.

The garage doors I chose are carriage style. They have windows and a X in them like a barn door. I really like them and think they improved the looks of the house. What do you think?













There are still more projects that I would like to complete. I will post about them when they are completed.

Jeff's Piano...The Back Story!

Most of you know that Jeff just got a new grand piano. He is very happy about it and it looks really good in the music room. I wanted to share with all of you the story behind the piano. It is an amazing story and will help to show all of us how God works in our lives.




As I mentioned before, Jeff had wanted a grand piano for as long as I have known him. My only requirements were that we had to have a house that was big enough and the piano had to be oak. Finding an oak grand piano is a difficult task. Here is the story behind Jeff's new piano.

Jeff had been praying that he could find a grand piano in oak. He wanted to be led to the right piano. One day, he was looking on Craig's List and he found a grand piano in oak that he liked. He called about the piano and the lady who was selling it gave him as much information as she could. She then told him if he needed more information he could call a local preacher in town. The preacher he was told to call turned out to be the preacher of a church that we used to live by. Jeff knew the preacher very well and trusted his opinion. The preacher told Jeff that it was a very good piano and he also told him that the lady was selling the piano for her son who was dying.

Jeff made an appointment to go look at the piano. He liked what he saw, but was not for sure if it was the right piano for him. In fact, he looked at some other pianos after he saw the one that was on Craig's List. None of the other pianos seemed right.

Jeff decided to go look at the piano again. This time he took his piano tuner. The piano tuner looked at it and told Jeff that the piano was in excellent shape and that they were asking a very good price for it. After he made the deal with the lady, Jeff played a song for her. He played the song "Those Who Wait Upon The Lord." The lady started to cry and told him that her son had taken a turn for the worse and it was just a matter of time and he would be gone. Jeff said, "I think you need a hug." The lady said she did. I always joke with Jeff and tell him he would hug a post if he thought it would help. That is just the kind of person he is. He is very empathetic and always wants to make people feel better.

Jeff called the movers and scheduled a time for them to move the piano. He was suppose to be at the house at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. When he arrived the lady was not there. Her daughter-in-law's father was there. He said that the lady had gone to the hospital to be with her son. They had made the decision to take him off lifesupport. A few minutes later the daughter-in-law arrived at the house and said that the man had died a couple of hours ago. She said that he knew that Jeff had bought the piano and was very relieved that the piano he loved so much was going to a good home. She said, "His piano had a new home, and he was ready to go home too."

When Jeff saw the piano for the first time, the lady was telling him about her son. He had been in many musicals in high school. She told Jeff that she had several records that were made of the musical but didn't have a record player to play them on. She said, "I guess I will never get to hear them again."

Jeff has a very large record collection and has several record players. When he went to pick up the piano on that Wednesday morning, he took the lady a record player that he was not using.

The lady called Jeff today and told him that her son had a lot of music. She wanted him to come and look through the music and take whatever he wanted. On his way over there, he was thinking about the way that he found the piano. He said, "If this is truly the piano that I was looking for, I will find a certain music book that I have been looking for and could not find anywhere." The music book was the music to "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." The old movie, not the new one. When he arrived at the house, the lady opened the door and Jeff could hear one of the musicals playing on the record player that he gave her. She said, "I never thought I would be able to hear these musicals again."

Jeff began looking through the music, and guess what he found...the music to "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory!" This reaffirmed to him that this piano was meant for him. He talked to the woman and she told him more about her son. You will never belive what her son's name was...Jeff. She said, "Isn't it fitting that the piano is going from one Jeff to another."

If you ever doubt that God is not in control and that He does not want to give us the desires of our hearts, I want you to remember this story. I know that Jeff has been a comfort to this lady in a very dark time in her life, and I am sure that neither one of them will ever forget the other. Please remember this family in your prayers. Please pray that God will give them peace in this very difficult time.

Happy Father's Day!

I could not let Father's Day go by without telling you all about two special dads that are in my life.




The first one is my dad. My dad is one of the most hardworking, honest, and generous people I know. He is a coal miner which is a very dangerous and hard job to perform. He never complains about working and has always done his best. We keep telling him it is time to retire, but he always finds a reason to work a little longer.

Without my dad, I would not have any of what I have. He provided everything for me. We always had plenty to eat, nice things, and a warm and inviting house to live in. He made sure that all of his children got a college education making so many sacrifices to make it happen.

I am so proud and honored to have him as my dad.

The second dad in my life is Jeff's dad.




Jeff's dad has always treated me so well and thinks of me as one of his kids. He always tries to do things to show how much he appreciates me. Whenever we need him, he is there. He has fixed many things for us, and he is always happy to do it. I feel very blessed to have him in my life.

The Music Room After a Day of Tweaking!

I spent most of the day shopping and tweaking! My two favorite things to do. I thought the music room needed a different rug. This one is much bigger and a little more fancy. I would have never thought I would have gotten a rug like this one, but I am very happy with how it looks in the room. I got the rug at Home Depot for a pretty good price. It is a 9 x 11.

I also bought the new lamp today at the Rabbit Patch here in town. I really like it, and it was half off!! I think the music room turned out really nice. I hope you like it too.




























Jeff loves his new piano and has been playing it a lot. It is really enjoyable to hear him play. I am very happy for him!
